Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab (FAKTR)

Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab

Overview

The online FAKTR video course features a review of the literature in an attempt to describe how manual, instrument assisted treatment and FAKTR protocols affect a variety of soft tissue and fascial conditions. This includes demonstrations of hand holds for instruments, a variety of treatment strokes and manual methods of treating soft tissue injuries. You will learn how to perform nerve flossing of the upper extremities at the most common sites of entrapment. A brief description of kinesiology taping and treatment of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is also presented.

FAKTR (pronounced FACTOR) is actually a concept, not a technique. The acronym stands for Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab. A few years ago, Greg Doerr, DC and Tom Hyde, DC began to experiment with treating soft tissue/fascial disorders through the use of instruments.

BodyZone.com

BodyZone.com - move, feel and be well

BodyZone.com - Posture Practice Online seminars are presented in an engaging lecture with detailed focused motion exercise videos to teach clinicians how to progress patients through care. Our goal is helping the patient progress from:

  • AcuteCare (passive therapy + posture awareness) , and through
  • RehabCare (less passive therapy + increasing active rehab care training posture control exercises), and then onto
  • WellnessCare and coaching (daily posture exercises combined with periodic passive therapy to maximize the bio-mechanic benefits of all activities of daily living (ADLs) and other exercise)

The StrongPostureTM program builds postural awareness by teaching patients’ simplified postural bio-mechanics combined with a sequential progression of posture exercise along three tracks (Balance-Alignment-Motion) in a patient friendly, research based framework of bio-mechanical concepts.

Chiropractors, massage therapists, personal trainers, physical therapists and other professionals can learn to practically integrate passive and active techniques with a progressive protocol designed to strengthen posture and retrain motion. Strengthening a patient’s posture creates perceived value with demonstrably improved function as well as pain relief and injury prevention and also promotes continuing effective exercise to help people move, feel and be well.

Evidence-Informed Practice: Faculty Training Program

Evidence-informed practice (EIP), also known as evidence-based practice (EBP), evidence-based health care (EBHC) and evidence-based medicine (EBM), is a discipline which focuses on how and when to integrate research results into clinical decision making. The skills include critical thinking, literature searching, critical appraisal, and the art of blending science with the intangibles of clinical experience and patient preference. Each faculty member within his/her education niche plays a role in teaching students how to use and refine these skills.
